Sinead O’Brien: Women Make Music
Research, experimentation with musical sound and developing craft
The project consists of a three month period of intense research and development, focussing on musical sound experimentation, collaborations and writing & rehearsing new material to record for upcoming releases in 2022.
The goal is for some work that is demoed and written during this period of time to be used for sync at some point in the near future, hoping to pitch some of the work created to publishers and sync agencies once it is ready and recorded.
Overall, this project will ensure Sinead defies genre labels, allowing her work to stand on its own and not be pigeonholed.
Originally from Limerick, O’Brien’s work captures the everyday and the in-between in a way that transcends any genre label. Writing from her own observations, O’Brien’s influences can be found in the realism of Mark E. Smith of The Fall and Patti Smith, and the works of literary icons such as Samuel Beckett, W.B Yeats, Flann O’Brien, Joan Didion and Albert Camus.
A multifaceted artist, O’Brien’s writing has also been published by the esteemed London Magazine whose alumni include T.S. Eliot, Sylvia Plath and William Burroughs. Her unique fusion of lyric-focused, spoken and sung words set against the “unholy orchestra” (Dork Magazine) of her band, Julian Hanson (guitar) and Oscar Robertson (drums), has piqued the attention of luminaries of both fields. Sinead O’Brien’s transfixing performances are placing her at the forefront of a resurgent wave of independent British and Irish talent.
