Sion Trefor – “America, A Bird in the House”
The music of Sion Trefor resonates with a rare artistic quality: unique and genuine emotion. One of the foremost composers for visuals in Wales, Sion integrates spectacular skills as virtuoso pianist, concert-level multi-instrumentalist and top-level producer, renowned for unforgettable, deeply moving and powerfully effective scores.
After the recent release of his debut solo piano EP “Fallout”, an introduction to his emotive breadth as a composer and performer, Sion now presents a landmark release, the full length album “America, A Bird in the House”. “America” is a musical excursion into beauty, violence and tragedy, a captivating and touching tapestry around themes of colonisation, displacement, destruction, a world falling apart. The titular “Bird in the House” is read as an omen, a living being caught in an alien environment. The image mirrors the timeliness and timelessness of the human struggle in a world that has become unfamiliar and hostile, captured in compositions that are laced with intimacy, sparkling with virtuosity and often evocative understatement. It shows Sion Trefor as composer in full command of his art. Collaborators for the album and accompanying visuals include an international array of talent, including soprano D’Andrea Pelletier (USA), sound designer Nicholas Davies (UK), dancers Joy Alpuerto Ritter (USA/DE), Martina Castrale (IT) and Jodi Ann Nicholson (UK); directors Mac Nixon (UK), Marites Carino (CA) and Charlie Stive Dagna (IT).
Sion runs a composition and production studio in Cardiff. Most recent / current commissions include scoring productions for Netflix, BBC and three ongoing features for the BFI.
