Sound (TDN 2024)
sound is a new music incubator based in North East Scotland. We run the annual soundfestival, support composers through development opportunities, and organise learning and community participation projects. Embedded in our local community, we are also key players in the new music sector in Scotland, the UK and internationally. sound aims to give composers the opportunity to experiment, develop and create new works, and to have these works performed and heard. We encourage audiences of all ages and backgrounds to experience all kinds of new music and cross-art form experimentation.
Our soundcreators programme offers a number of development opportunities, supporting those creating innovative new music primarily in the classical musical sector as well as in overlapping areas between it and other types of music. We provide opportunities for emerging, mid-career and established composers as well as creative performers who work closely with composers and/or are creative through improvisation.
Our support includes:
- Commissioning composers to create new works
- Offering performance platforms for music creators’ work to be heard through performances at soundfestival
- Facilitating composers work to be performed in other national and international settings through co-commissions and collaborations
- Offering skills and creative development opportunities to composers through a variety of workshops and development programmes
- Providing advice and networking opportunities through a weekly helpline and fortnightly composers’ chat
- Supporting creative performers both to work closely with composers and to develop their own creative voice
