South Asian Arts UK (SAA-uk) (TDN 2024)
South Asian Arts UK (SAA-uk) is a centre of excellence and talent development hub for South Asian classical music and dance in the North of England. A dynamic and resilient organisation led by innovators, for over 26 years SAA-uk has organically and proactively built expertise in talent development and cross-cultural creative practices; teaching traditional South Asian performing arts to children, young people and adults; successfully providing progression routes for underrepresented artists to develop their creative practice and pursue successful careers; opening doors for young people beginning their journeys in the arts and culture sector.
Our TDN programme, SPOTLIGHT, shines a light on underrepresented creators rooted in diverse South Asian music who want to explore new expressions and challenge perceptions. SPOTLIGHT is the space for musicians who want to develop their career in music as composer, lyricists and musicians. Through the TDN programme, our objective is to support artists in the creation of work that engages and reflects diverse global communities in 21st Century Britain, which builds on our 26yr history of spotting nurturing and signposting Talent to realise their potential and pursue successful careers in music. SPOTLIGHT brings together our expertise in connecting music creators with other artists from the same or a different tradition, supporting fundraising activities towards a specific project or development of one’s artistic practice, or by providing the opportunity to connect with a receptive audience or experts.
