‘A Little Book of Monsters’ is a 35 minute work for large children’s chorus, commissioned in two versions for 4-player ensemble or chamber orchestra. It will take the form of a suite of interlinked songs, setting original lyrics by poet Matt Harvey, performed by very large groups of children aged 10-12 alongside professional musicians.
Stephen Deazley is an Irish born composer and educationalist, based in Scotland. He is widely acknowledged as a champion of music and music education for children and young people. In 1999 he became the first composer to be appointed as Creative Director of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra’s education programme. Under his direction SCO Education received national and international recognition as a UK leader in the field of orchestral education work, recognized by the Scottish Executive as a model of best practice within the industry.
Upcoming commissions and performances include a multi-media work for Glasgow’s Unesco City of Music Weekend in September and a youth opera for Welsh National Opera in July. His latest work Dr Ferret’s Bad Medicine Roadshow for Scottish Opera recently sold out four performances in Glasgow. He has created works for circus, theatre, multi-media and concerts and produced innovative outreach projects with many different communities across the UK. He is Founder and Artistic Director of Love Music Festival, an international music festival for children, and Director of the eclectic Scottish based performance group Music at the Brewhouse.
