Jazz Stroud ‘Live in your Lounge’ 2020

Stroud Valleys Artspace are excited to present a special ‘live in your lounge’ festival of live streamed events and artists conversations over two weekends this September.

Jazz Stroud is an artist-led weekend of jazz influenced music that embraces all aspects of the jazz spectrum.

Cuban-born trumpeter Yelfris Valdés has followed collaborations with Moses Boyd, Sierra Maestra, Chucho Valdés, Ariwo. He is a composer and trumpet player, who mixes the latest electronic technics with the spiritual chants and mystic rhythms from the Orishas, He released his debut album, For The Ones in late 2019.

Sarathy Korwar is a London-based drummer, percussionist, composer and bandleader. He works predominantly in a jazz and Indo jazz field but also incorporates elements of hip-hop, and other fusions. Korwar has collaborated with the likes of Shabaka Hutchings (The Comet Is Coming), clarinettist Arun Ghosh and producer Hieroglyphic Being, as well as groups Penya and Ill Considered. He has toured with Kamasi Washington, Yussef Kamaal and Moses Boyd.

Ishmael Ensemble is a saxophonist, DJ, producer and bandleader, known to his friends as Pete Cunningham. He’s also brought his studio-bound inventions to life with the help of a band, the Ishmael Ensemble, making music that’s pitched somewhere between astral jazz, burbling electronica, trippy minimalism, psychedelic dub and 20 years of club culture.
