Still in their teenage years and recently free from school, Blaenavon are a three piece from Liphook in Hampshire. Forming at just 15, the band have achieved an incredible amount, including releasing two EPs, touring with the likes of Foals, Warpaint, Bloc Party, Songhoy Blues, Peace and Alvvays.

They’ve recently completed their debut album with the legendary Jim Abbiss, (Arctic Monkeys, Adele, Bombay Bicycle Club, Catfish & The Bottlemen, Bjork), with the first single from the record premiering at the end of February. The band’s lead singer was included in Burberry’s ‘New Faces’ campaign this year and the boys’ recorded a stunning Burberry Acoustic session in Manchester’s Albert Hall.

The grant from PRS for Music Foundation has allowed Blaenavon to travel to SXSW, and the United States, for the very first time, something that would not be possible without their invaluable support. The trip will be instrumental in progressing the band’s career, both internationally and at home. It will facilitate discussions with US labels and agents, giving them a platform to see the band live and to fall in love with them, as well as building up their US fanbase. Additionally, the amount of coverage that the festival receives every year is an incredible opportunity for them to reach more people globally. This band are just at the beginning of their careers, and SXSW is an important step in helping them realise their full potential.
