Demob Happy: International Showcase Fund (SXSW)

In 2015 Demob Happy asserted themselves as one of the UK’s most exciting new bands. Drawing on the likes of Nirvana, Queens of The Stone Age, Melvins, The Beatles, The Stooges and Kyuss for source material, their off-kilter pop music constantly stretches beyond their genre to create a spontaneous clatter of fresh and exciting sound.
Their debut album Dream Soda, released in the UK through So Recordings in October 2015, is a collection of contrasts: tough and tender, melodic and malevolent, sweet and sour. They make a righteous noise and play every show with their now trademark wild abandon. Big riffs and songs to remember. DIY called it “a frantic, f**ked-up mission statement to rival the best of this year.” While NME said: “It’s chockablock with grunge riffs, howling vocals and sweaty rock atmosphere…”
2015 also consisted of two headline tours including sold out shows at Brighton’s The Haunt, London’s Lexington and the 100 Club, a European tour with Death From Above 1979, a packed festival schedule including Reading & Leeds Festival, Reeperbahn and the Great Escape Festival amongst others.
The band has now been granted the PRS for Music Foundation‘s International Showcase Fund for exporting their fearsome live shows to SXSW, hoping to gain exposure in the US market with a 2016 release in mind. We just hope Austin is ready for them…
