Cryptic Talent Development Programme
Cryptic are a Glasgow-based internationally renowned producer, presenting today’s most imaginative and exciting music creators whilst also nurturing the creative talent of tomorrow. They create memorable experiences that engage and inspire our audiences through three core programmes: Cryptic Nights, Cryptic Associates and Sonica. Cryptic ‘ravishes the senses’ with multi-media performances that fuse music, sonic and visual art. All of these core programmes are being supported by the PRS Foundation.
Recognizing the need for a regular, supportive platform for emerging Scottish-based artists with fresh ideas, Cryptic launched Cryptic Nights in 2009. Now a “well honed stomping ground for creative types” (The List), the organization has supported over 240 artists in partnership with the Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA), Glasgow, many going on to have highly successful careers.
Established in 2011, Cryptic Associates is an extended talent development programme for emerging early and mid-career UK-based artists, where they cultivate “…a remarkable ecology of partnership, integration, inclusion, outreach and mentorship” (The Quietus). Each year they commission their Associates to create a new work with sound or music at its heart, often as part of Sonica and touring worldwide. The Associate Artists are offered regular artistic residencies, secured through one of our partnerships. Since 2011, Associates have toured to 15 UK cities and 23 cities across 14 countries internationally.
Exploring the “thrilling interface where music, visual art, theatre and digital technology meet” (The Times), Sonica is a worldwide, year-round programme that presents high-quality, cutting-edge sound works with strong visual elements. It is punctuated by a biennial autumn festival in Glasgow and spring weekend in London.
