Britten Sinfonia: Talent Development Fund 2018
Britten Sinfonia is one of the world’s most celebrated and pioneering ensembles. The orchestra is acclaimed for its virtuoso musicianship, a bold approach to concert programming, and a versatility that is second to none. Britten Sinfonia breaks the mould by not having a permanent conductor or director, instead choosing to collaborate with a range of the finest international guest artists from across the musical spectrum. The orchestra is well known for its commissioning and performing new music, and for discovering and promoting compositional talent.
In 2018/19, Britten Sinfonia as Talent Development Partners will commission new works from UK-based composers Luke Styles, Ryan Wigglesworth, and the winner of the orchestra’s upcoming OPUS2018 competition composition for UK composers. It also will perform new works including a piece for solo oboe by Michael Berkeley and Colin Matthews, who has written a new work called Octet featuring oboist Nicholas Daniel, to be performed at Wigmore Hall in Autumn 2018. It will nurture new and emerging talent through its OPUS2018 competition, which in addition to a commission for the winner features mentoring and feedback from industry experts for the shortlisted composers, and a performance of the winner’s new work.
Supporting young talent is also important to Britten Sinfonia, and part of the Talent Development portfolio includes Britten Sinfonia Academy, an ensemble for talented young musicians which now includes a Composer Hub where members will receive training, feedback and performances of their music.
