Cryptic: Talent Development Fund 2018

Our Talent Development Partnership provides support to emerging and mid-career music creators through Cryptic Nights, Cryptic Associate Artists and Sonica.

We are a Glasgow-based internationally renowned producer, presenting today’s most imaginative British music creators whilst nurturing the creative talent of tomorrow. We create memorable experiences that engage and inspire our audiences through three core programmes: Cryptic Nights, Cryptic Associate Artists and Sonica fusing music, sonic and visual art.

Cryptic Nights is a regular, supportive platform for emerging Scottish-based music creators with curious ideas in partnership with CCA. Now widely recognised as a popular “series of experimental one-nightstands” (The List), we have supported over 250 artists in the development and presentation of their work, with many going on to have highly successful careers.

Established in 2011, Cryptic Associate Artists is an extended talent development programme for early and mid-career UK-based music creators demonstrating a dizzying array of research and ideas, and a dedication to new and never-before seen techniques and processes” (Frieze). The Associate Artists are offered regular artistic residencies at home and overseas, supported through our national and international partnerships. Since 2011, our Associate Artists have been commissioned to create 28 works, which have toured the UK and internationally to 39 cities in 14 countries.

Sonica, sonic art for the visually minded, is our award-winning, year-round touring programme that presents high-quality, cutting-edge sound works with strong visual elements; punctuated by a biennial autumn festival in Glasgow and spring weekend in London. Launched at Tramway, Glasgow in 2012, Sonica introduces visual sonic art to audiences and makes an exciting contribution to the development of this art form, showcasing innovative work from upcoming UK talent alongside exceptional international artists in collaboration with renowned co-producers and venues.
