Musical Theatre Network: Talent Development Partner 2018

As Talent Development Partners in 2018/2019 –

BEAM Follow-Spot is an 11 month talent development programme continuing the journey of 58 writing teams featured in BEAM2018 (an industry showcase of new British musical theatre), as well as further developing the craft and career of music creators who pitched for BEAM but didn’t feature in the main showcase.

  • Strand 1. To continue professional exposure of the music creators showcased at BEAM2018 we’ll produce Promotional Videos to distribute amongst public and industry to raise their profiles and give the artists a larger platform.
  • Strand 2. We’ll establish a programme of monthly talent development labs for musical theatre creators in two regional hubs: in Glasgow, Scotland, partnering with the National Theatre of Scotland and the Scottish Youth Theatre, and in Manchester with the Royal Exchange Theatre (with support from Hope Mill theatre and the Lowry). Talented music creators who pitched for inclusion in BEAM2018 in Scotland and North West England will be invited to take part in these writers’ groups where they’ll receive sustained support to develop new work and their careers. They’ll regularly share work in progress with peers, receive feedback from visiting industry professionals, take part in masterclasses and workshops, and share work via a scratch night at the host venue. 8-12 writers will form the core groups but masterclasses/seminars/public sharings will be open to any musical theatre writers.
  • Strand 3: Follow-Spot Showcase – we’ll produce a musical theatre showcase at Royal & Derngate Theatre, Northampton, both the public and industry contacts will be invited to attend.
