Opera North: Talent Development Partner 2018
As Talent Development Partners with PRS Foundation, Opera North’s will continue our Resonance programme by offering a series of opportunities for artists from BAME music-makers in the north of England to develop new ideas through artistic residencies.
An annual Resonance open call is open to BAME musicians, composers and performers working in all musical genres, aged 18 and over and living in the North, who are interested in collaborating with performers from other artistic disciplines, telling stories, or testing an exciting possibility. The successful artists in the programme’s first year, Nwando Ebizie, Thandanani Gumede, Moji Kareem and Christella Litras developed brilliant and diverse ideas: a Zulu jazz song cycle, a live score to Martiniquean animated film, a new opera blending myth and contemporary issues and an afro-futurist interpretation of Hildegard of Bingen’s visions.
In the first year we also supported Brolly Productions to involve three northern based musicians in their new opera by Errollyn Wallen, and sitar player Jasdeep Singh to act as Music Director of a collaboration between Opera North Projects and South Asian Arts Uk on the theme of Partition.
