Talent Development Partner 2019: Cryptic

Cryptic is a Glasgow based internationally-renowned producing art house, presenting today’s most imaginative, innovative UK-based music creators whilst nurturing the creative talent of tomorrow. We create memorable experiences fusing music, sonic and visual art across four core programmes: Cryptic Nights, Cryptic Artists, Cove Park residencies and Sonica. In 2019, Cryptic celebrates 25 years of ‘ravishing the senses.’

Launched in 2009, Cryptic Nights has presented over 270 artists in partnership with the Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA), Glasgow. Crossing creative boundaries with live music, visual sonic art, film and new media, Cryptic Nights presents a selection of the highest quality emerging talent.

Cryptic Artists, established in 2011, is an extended talent development programme nurturing mid-career music, sound and multimedia artists. In 2019/20, we will work with: Josh Armstrong; Kathy Hinde; Luci Holland; Heather Lander; Alex Smoke and Robbie Thomson. Cryptic Artists have been commissioned to make 25 works, touring across the UK and internationally to 54 cities, reaching an audience of over 139,000.

Cryptic has worked in partnership with Cove Park since 2002, curating an annual music and multi-media residency programme since 2012. The opportunity offers music creators time to focus exclusively on their practice, providing important peer-to-peer learning opportunities.

Sonica, sonic art for the visually minded, is our award-winning, 11-day festival of events dedicated to world-class visual sonic arts, presenting British talent alongside exceptional international artists. Since 2015, the Glasgow-wide festival has presented over 800 sonic art events by over 250 artists to more than 160,000 people across 19 venues.
