Brighter Sound: Talent Development Partner 2020
Brighter Sound nurtures the music creators, leaders and industry professionals of the future – helping people with everything from artistic and career development, to building communities, and improving personal wellbeing. Based in Manchester, Brighter Sound has been developing young and emerging artists for over 20 years, with a particular focus on supporting those who are underrepresented. As sector lead for Manchester’s membership to the international Music Cities Network, Brighter Sound is passionate about supporting artists in the North of England and strengthening links between the North and the rest of the world. Since 2013 Brighter Sound has been working at the forefront of gender equality, and for the last three years has been delivering a large-scale initiative called Both Sides Now in partnership with an incredible range of venues, creative and cultural organisations, music education hubs, labels and festivals across the North.
Brighter Sound’s bold and responsive talent development programme aims to empower musicians to achieve their artistic potential, and equip them with the skills, experiences and contacts needed to build a sustainable career. This work includes artistic development such as creative residencies, high-profile showcasing opportunities and commissions, and more structured support such as workshops and bespoke mentoring.
“As the challenges of the last twelve months leave many musicians feeling like they no longer have a viable career, and the industry faces arguably the biggest economic challenge in its history, our work as a Talent Development Partner has never felt more crucial. The support of PRS Foundation, and the TDP network more widely, enables organisations like ours to work flexibly and respond to the needs of musicians, providing really bespoke and targeted support for artists from all backgrounds and at all stages of their career, and ensuring the industry that emerges from this crisis is more equitable and diverse.”
