Red Note Ensemble is Scotland’s leading contemporary music ensemble – commissioning, developing and performing an extensive, highly-varied and critically-acclaimed programme of new music to the highest international standards, and developing and undertaking programmes for engagement with new music both across Scotland and internationally.
2020 – 2021: Red Note’s year-long programme of recordings, performances and career development of UK composers and artists, April 2020-March 2021.
Red Note’s approach to music creator development is to provide a “development pipeline” for music creators within contemporary classical music, from first contact with contemporary music creation (often at school, or in a community setting), through secondary and tertiary education, to emerging-professional opportunities, commissioning, national and international touring, and recording. Red Note focus primarily but not exclusively upon working with and developing Scottish and Scottish-based creators, in particular directly addressing inequalities of access and opportunity in music creation and performance for people with specific protected characteristics according to their Equalities, Diversity and Inclusion policy and plan.
