Sound and Music: Talent Development Partner 2019
Sound and Music is the UK’s national organisation for new music. We support music creators and composers at every stage of their journey in creating and presenting ground-breaking, experimental new work across a wide range of genres including contemporary classical, sound art, singer-songwriting, percussion, choral music, queer art and jazz.
From new graduates through to emerging and more established, our programme provides opportunities where they are needed most, bridging developmental gaps and providing artistic and professional development opportunities to enable composers across the UK to progress to the next stage in their career. Sound and Music has brought diversity and inclusivity to the heart of all of its work.
We are hugely grateful to the PRS Foundation for support as a Talent Development Partner, which supports two key programmes: New Voices and Composer-Curator.
New Voices is a talent development programme like no other. New Voices explicitly seeks to work with a diverse and representative range of composers from across the UK and to put their interests and needs first through a structured co-designed programme that includes accredited coaching and expert mentoring, peer networking days, identifying and brokering suitable partnerships for one or more new works to be created and brought to a public outcome, and also exploring digital outputs to extend the reach of the projects created.
Composer-Curator is our artist-led national touring programme, supporting composers to curate and present new music across a range of genres with a bespoke package including skills development, financial support and peer networking.
