Teah Lewis : Early Career Promoter Fund
About :
Boxie was set up in 2018 to support women and minority gender artists in Sheffield to take up space in the Sheffield music scene. Run by musician Teah Lewis, this PRS funding will be an exciting chance to expand the BOXIE team and run an inclusive gig series this autumn.
The gig series will span a double harp-headline at a special venue in Sheffield General Cemetery (https://gencem.org) featuring Bethany Ley (accompanied by live visuals from Alfie Day) and a duo performance from Manon McCoy and Lili Holland-Fricke. Teah will also be curating acts for an exciting collaboration with Sheffield’s Sofar Sounds team, at a secret venue. AND finally, Boxie will be hosting another round of ‘CAMP BOXIE’ which is a gig series piloted in 2021 with the specific aim of platforming artists that have never performed before, or perhaps are returning to live music after a long period away. Teah is hoping with Camp Boxie in particular to support people to perform in an inclusive and safe space, whilst also sharing some cool new music with audiences in Sheffield. The funding is going to allow Teah to be paid for time she puts into these events, but also means she can bring in a second staff member to help manage events and share some of the work load. Finally, the funding also includes some time with a local graphic designer Emily Stancer (https://www.emilystancer.co.uk) she is super talented and creative, and a musician herself so she is the perfect person to help give the Boxie branding a new lease of life and make sure it can stand out on socials and on promotional materials!
