The Be-Bop Club is Bristol’s longest running modern jazz venue, and has been presenting gigs since 1989.
Originally started to provide a space for Bristol players to perform in, the club has become a valuable part of the national touring circuit and has welcomed many of the UK’s biggest jazz names as visiting soloists and also whole groups touring.
In contrast to the many free-entry gigs in Bristol, the venue has developed in to a real listening club, with almost a mini-concert atmosphere and a knowledgeable and discerning audience.
In consequence groups are able to perform with no artistic restrictions, as can sometimes be the case in noisy free-entry venues. Because of this the club has become an important venue for Bristol’s jazz composers where they know they can perform their own material in a receptive environment.
