The Belfast Ensemble: Open Fund for Organisations

The Belfast Ensemble will commission a new stage work, written specifically for core ensemble from Belfast composer Conor Mitchell. Created for multi layered sopranos and orchestra, the ‘Rosen Project’ looks at the power of one against the many.

A composer who directs and designs his own multi-media stage works Conor Mitchell is alone in his field as a maker of ‘total theatre’. The founder of The Belfast Ensemble, his work has transformed the music/theatre/opera scene, bringing visually stunning complex scores – often politically inspired – to the stage with complete artistic unity. The Observer recently listed his ground-breaking hate speech inspired opera ‘Abomination’ as ‘Top 10 Classical of 2019’. It went on to win Best Opera at the Irish Times Theatre Awards 2020.
