Luke Bedford studied composition at the Royal College of Music with Edwin Roxburgh and Simon Bainbridge. His works range from chamber groups (e.g. the string quartet Of the Air), to ensemble, sometimes with voice (Good Dream She Has and Or Voit Tout En Aventure) and to full orchestra (Outblaze the Sky, Wreathe). In August 2015 Instability for large orchestra was premièred at the BBC Proms, in June 2016 the BCMG premièred In Black Bright Ink for bass clarinet, violin, violoncello and piano.

This award will allow Luke the time to create a draft libretto alongside David Harrower, which they will use to take to potential co-commmissioners across Europe to partner with the Royal Opera House in the creation of a new chamber opera.
