Tunde Jegede: The Composers’ Fund
The Composers Fund will enable the recording of a new album of cross-cultural classical works for kora (African harp-lute) and string orchestra composed by Tunde Jegede.
With a mix of original compositions and fresh arrangements of old African folk tunes, this album will introduce audiences to a new sound world within classical music.
Tunde Jegede will record the album with the NOK Orchestra, an orchestra of young players who bring a new cultural sensibility to orchestral music.
Tunde Jegede is one of the only composers in the world to be steeped in both Western and African music traditions. Rooted in these two cultural legacies, he is a composer, producer, cellist and kora virtuoso who brings a new vision to contemporary African and Western classical music.
A renaissance man of the harp-lute, his work is a unique synthesis of classical, jazz and traditional music and embodies the legacy of the idiom; African Classical Music.
His music and his works are meditative and reflective, and transcends genres with a musical imprint that is distinctly his own.
