Short Project Title: The Marian Consort: New Music Programme
Program Description: The Marian Consort is one of the leading commissioning vocal ensembles in the UK, with a catalogue of over 30 commissioned works. With this momentum behind us, we’ve revitalised our commissioning work as our New Music Programme, a two-tier approach comprising New Music Studio, our main commissioning programme, creating five new works each year, and Emerging Voices, a new talent development strand for emerging composers. Through New Music Studio we will commission the best UK composers and provide an environment in which they can develop, focusing on those that haven’t written extensively for voices, and those who want to develop their writing style specifically for vocal ensemble. We’ll commission five new works each year to perform around the UK and record. Emerging Voices is an annual programme that supports three early career composers that have not previously written for vocal ensemble. We’ll commission a short piece from each composer (filmed for their use), and provide coaching and workshop time with our singers and a mentor composer to experiment and try out ideas. Following completion of the scheme, we’ll offer these composers a full commission for our main programme, New Music Studio.
