The Open Fund: Festival of Voice
Created by Wales Millennium Centre, Festival of Voice Cardiff is an international arts festival that celebrates the voice in all its forms. Festival of Voice is about discovery through participation and immersion – about finding voices. They are not tied to any particular style of music or art form. The festival evolves each year, depending on what enthuses the team and excites audiences.
The Festival is pleased to welcome back renowned Welsh psych-pop singer, sound artist, DJ and radio presenter Gwenno Saunders for a special commission for Festival of Voice. ‘Edrica’ sees Gwenno celebrate the life and work of patchwork pioneer and poet Edrica Huws, through electronica, voice and visuals. The performance will explore the impact of motherhood on creativity, and the parallels between creating modern electronic music using found sound and the ritual of patchwork stitching.
Atlantic Arc Orchestra brings together some of the most respected traditional musicians from the UK and Ireland under legendary folk guitarist Dónal Lunny. Hosting special guests Lisa Jên (9 Bach front singer), Sam Lee (Mercury Prize nominated folk singer) and Julie Fowlis (multi-award winning Gaelic singer) the members have created a powerful fusion of musical ancestry.
