The Royal Opera House and Polka Theatre are collaborating for the first time to create a new and fantastical opera for children aged 2-6. The Royal Opera’s former Composer-in-Residence Elspeth Brooke joins forces with Joy Haynes, Director of Norwich Puppet Theatre following their acclaimed work Star at MAC Birmingham.

Joy is committed to making theatre for very young children, and uses puppetry to create magical and stimulating worlds. Elspeth, a rising star in British contemporary music and an experienced writer for voice and theatre, brings together a strong interest in education with an imaginative use of sound and texture to create inspiring soundscapes.

Dot, Squiggle and Rest will be an engaging and inspiring new work, drawing on the theme of shapes. The new work will be delighting young audiences from June in the Royal Opera House’s Clore Studio and during July at Polka Theatre’s Adventure Theatre.
