Tomorrow’s Warriors Ltd (TDN 2024)
For 33 years Tomorrow’s Warriors has been credited with changing the face of UK jazz. They offer a pioneering comprehensive programme of learning and training which champions and supports young Black and female talent, and those who come from challenging circumstances that would be a barrier to accessing a career in music. Free access to Tomorrow’s Warriors artistic development programme has proved crucial in nurturing the talent and early careers of so many of the UK artists currently tearing up the international jazz scene including Mercury Prize 2023 winners Ezra Collective, Moses Boyd, Nubya Garcia, Shabaka Hutchings and many more.
With support from PRS Foundation and PPL, the Warriors Rise programme sees pioneering jazz talent development charity, Tomorrow’s Warriors, take three of its exciting young emerging artists on tour around the UK. As well as being an excellent development opportunity for these young musicians to perform live with their bands as they tour seven UK towns and cities, they will also be given mentoring support covering marketing, PR, and the day-to-day logistics of touring, all helping to build the essential skills needed to have a sustainable career in the music industry. This initiative will also build closer ties with the grassroots music venues, a sector facing multiple operational challenges from rising utility bills to audiences struggling with the rising cost of living. By providing turn-key tour support for each emerging artist, Warriors Rise cushions the financial risk to venues programming new music, whilst reaching out to build engaged audiences and support the development of successful artists, who will hopefully grow to be the ‘headliners’ of tomorrow!
