Tomorrow’s Warriors: Talent Development Partner 2023

Tomorrow’s Warriors Third Stream & Beyond Strings

THIRD STREAM: Tomorrow’s Warriors takes a deeper dive into what the composer, Gunther Schuller coined the ‘third stream’, at the confluence of jazz and classical music, presenting our illustrious alumna, saxophonist Nubya Garcia at Royal Festival Hall, London on 15 September performing Stan Getz’s ‘Focus’ with our professional ensemble, Nu Civilisation Orchestra, featuring a 31-piece line-up including 29 string players. The concert opens with world premieres of two works for strings commissioned by Tomorrow’s Warriors from composers, Peter Edwards – who conducts the orchestra – and Oleta Haffner. BEYOND STRINGS: The professional development programme grown out of Tomorrow’s Warriors’ JazzStrings programme for string players interested to learn and play jazz. It includes a series of composer-led R&D experiments providing peer support and mentoring throughout development of the new commissions, whilst building a pipeline to NCO and the industry of diverse third stream musicians.
