Vanessa Sauls: The Open Fund for Music Creators

‘I’m so thankful for being supported by PRS’ Open Fund! I’ll be using this funding towards the recording and release of my debut album. The album will be a formative journey, blending my musical influences and refining my creative vision. As an independent artist, I’m really excited to show the world and music industry what can be achieved with creativity, drive and determination. I’ll be telling my life story through this album: I’ve been visualising and planning this release for a year now, but I’m even more thrilled about the inspiration that will come along the way.

I aim to release the album in 2022. The Open Fund support will allow me to engage amazingly talented musicians and provide them with the remuneration they deserve. I’m committed to fair opportunities, so securing funding for musicians fees was a main consideration in my Open Fund application. I value my collaborators’ time and I think it’s incredible that PRS supports me in supporting them. I can’t wait to get in the studio and make my vision come to life. Knowing that musicians fees and recording costs are covered gives me the peace of mind that I need to dive into this project!

I’ll be promoting the album with a live session, which will give audiences the opportunity to engage with it in audiovisual form. A meaningful portion of my funding will go towards covering production costs for the session. The PRS Open Fund will also cover the album’s artwork and PR costs.’ – Vanessa Sauls
