Vulva Voce’s debut EP ‘Maddalena’, pairing madrigals with contemporary compositions

Women Make Music will help to fund the recording, release, promotion and launch of Vulva Voce’s debut 4-track EP, ‘Maddalena’, centred around the music of Maddalena Casulana. The project – a celebration of women making music past and present, combines two of Casulana’s 1500’s madrigals with two contemporary companion pieces, written by Vulva Voce. The two madrigals, ‘Ahi Possanza D’Amor’ and ‘Morte! Che voi?’ are originally written for voice and have never before been recorded for string quartet. In contrast, the two new pieces are strikingly different in style, combining techno grooves, pop, jazz and Renaissance madrigal which all merge together to create a fresh, energetic fusion.  Following the release of the EP, a launch gig will be held in Manchester in March 2025, Women’s History Month. Vulva Voce will also launch an open call competition to female-identifying and non-binary artists to remix the tracks from the EP.
