Abi Sampa: Women Make Music

Abi Sampa has been a key part of the UK Fusion scene for the past 7 years. Combining western popular music elements with Qawwali, Carnatic and hindustani classical music, she and her band have moved from strength to strength and inspired a generation of young British-Asian Artists.

Abi, herself, first rose to prominence when she competed and was highly successful on The Voice, in 2007, and has since worked with phenomenal acts such as Nitin Sawhney and Engine-earz. She has also played and sold out some phenomenal shows, including slots at Glastonbury and Oxford’s Sheldonian Theatre.

Abi, along with Producer Rushil Ranjan and Singer Songwriter Amrit Dhuffer, have created a fresh and contemporary revival of Qawwali using a blend of Western classical and folk music to breathe new life into this beautiful ancient art form.
