Brighter Sound: Women Make Music
Here Come the Grrrls celebrates, profiles and inspires female musicians. The programme is made up of residencies, masterclasses, courses, commissions, debates and discussions that celebrate creativity and challenge stereotypes.
On January 11th we launch a free course for young female musicians entitled Digital Vocals, an opportunity to develop new skills, and explore innovative ways of creating music using a variety of digital techniques and tools. The course will be lead by Elizabeth Vince and will look at the way the voice can be manipulated, its full performance and instrumental potential and ways to utilize the techniques live and in composition.
To celebrate International Women’s Day in early March, we will be presenting a panel discussion looking at how gender has become a genre and the impact of written media on female representation and stereotyping. Chaired by very special guest Stuart Maconie alongside contributions from featured panelists Vanessa Reed (CEO PRS Foundation), Laura Snapes (freelance culture writer for Pitchfork, NME, The Guardian) Chris Long (BBC Manchester Introducing) and Roxanne Du Bastion (independent singer and songwriter). Following the panel discussion will be a very special performance from Serafina Steer who will be debuting an original piece of music commissioned by Brighter Sound and inspired by Clare Pollard‘s re-imaginings of the literary work Ovid’s Heroines.
Later in March we welcome critically acclaimed musician Josephine for a one-off masterclass exploring the relationship between film and music.
Here Come The Grrrls offers an eclectic mix of musical opportunities. Experiment, collaborate and explore music with us.
