Ella Spira: Women Make Music

Voices of the Amazon is a full length theatrical production with a global story of deforestation told through authentic music and dance. Grammy-nominated composer Ella Spira will work closely with choreographer Helen Pickett and director Pietra Mello-Pittman, and with Brazilian song-writer Carlinos Brown, to create a full-length score for 5 musicians (and 9 dancers) in a vibrant, entertaining and emotional production with universal themes.

Ella Spira is a 28-year old London-based composer who has worked with some of the finest names in music. She was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2016 for the music for a new ballet INALA, alongside South African legends Ladysmith Black Mambazo, which was performed at London’s Sadler’s Wells, on tour throughout the UK and internationally. Ella is a co-founder of Sisters Grimm, an increasingly successful production company set up with Royal Ballet dancer Pietra Mello-Pittman to promote major new dance and music projects of the highest quality. They were nominated for the Women of the Future Awards in October 2015. Her goal is continuing high-profile success for quality music which is performed with passion and authenticity. This production marks a definitive step: she is creating a new and authentic voice herself, working with others while retaining a true musical oversight to create a convincing score and soundscape.

Join us as one of the 13,200 people who will experience Voices of the Amazon at Sadlers’ Wells, London (July 2017) and The Eden Project (September 2017).
