Faith i Branko: Women Make Music

PRSF are enabling me to specifically fund the studio/musician costs for the ‘recording/mixing/mastering’ element of my project with the group Faith i Branko.

Faith i Branko has been creating music since 2009. As band leader, I form the core of this project as composer/performer and have worked consistently with violinist Branko Ristic and a number of UK/Roma musicians since 2009. We have achieved international Romani media status; are recording artists on Emir Kusturicas‘ latest film with Monica Belluci; toured Australia and Europe (2015) – including Enlighten Canberra, Vienna Roma Festival; recently completed a 2016 43 – venue summer tour of the UK, including the Royal Festival Hall, and I am the composer and producer of our WOMEX award winning album Gypsy Lover – recorded at Serbian film Director Emir Kusturica’s Studio. Recent radio play includes BBC Radio 3 Heritage Tracks, World Service with Stephen Fry and 6 Music. Gypsy Lover is placed in 11th position in the European World Music Charts. My compositional work from our last album placed our record company in the top 10 World Music Record companies at WOMEX and our work is unique within the UK due to to the outstanding musicianship of the lead violinist, of my specific Roma accordion technique (‘more ‘musical drive’ than most Roma men’ [Pink TV], and the originality of my compositions. My place as a talented female accordion player is unusual and inspiring to other minority female musicians.
