Getrude Veremu: Women Make Music
I am T.I.N. (THINGS I”M NOT) is an autobiographical music theatre piece about the life of Rhodesian- born (Zimbabwean), Electronic Dance Musician Getrude Veremu. Her career began 20 years ago when she signed to a Bristol based Manager and her strong ties to the trip-hop and UK dance music scenes established Getrude as a freelance vocalist and lyricist.
In 2004 she co-produced an intimate solo/self released EP about her Mother who had passed from HIV related disease, which was named that year’s Glastonbury Jazz/World Stage Best Emerging Artist and was mentioned on John Peel’s career defining BBC2 “Peel at Glastonbury”highlights show.
T.I.N is a unique multidimensional story drawing on Getrudes biological heritage, (Ndebele, Khoisan, Shona and Dutch) and her childhood that was filled with mental, physical and sexual abuse, which led to her running away at 14, and winning her freedom through the British Courts. It is her detective story, discovering her truth and empowerment.
T.I.N is the Journey of one woman to reach the ultimate love and acceptance of self.
TIN is the unmasking of the shamanic doubles we use to protect ourselves from the cold reality of life.
Getrude deconstructs her hybridisation through the expression of combined multimedia theatrical art forms including music, projection mapping, dance and theatre. Her songs are an array of experimental electronic and multi genre pop music from her back catalogue of solo and collaborative writing.
