Isobel Anderson: Women Make Music

Isobel Anderson is a Belfast based musician, originally from East Sussex in England. Her music combines thoughtful songwriting with original production and ambient field recordings. To date she has released three studio albums, which have garnered over 15 million Spotify streams and radio airplay on BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 3, BBC 6 Music and The Guardian’s Music Podcast. Previous live performances include Glastonbury’s acoustic stage, The Secret Garden Party and London’s Proud Galleries. Isobel also has an MA and PhD in Sound Art, and her sound-works have been performed internationally. 2017 sees Isobel release her fourth studio album, CHALK/FLINT: her most ambitious collection of songs to date.

CHALK/FLINT is evidence of Isobel‘s growing songwriting prowess. With a conscious effort to develop the production and instrumentation on the record, the results separate this album from Isobel’s previous releases. The eleven-track album was written and recorded in Belfast, but inspired by the jagged white cliffs of South East England’s coastline. The dense instrumental and vocal harmonies, alongside the textured soundscape composition is a nod to Isobel’s MA and PhD in Sound Art.
