Laura Cannell: Women Make Music
The Sky Untuned represents a new musical phase for composer/performer Laura Cannell.
With deconstructed violin bow and double recorders, Laura performs semi-composed, semi-improvised pieces which explore the spaces between the ancient and the experimental creating music that is rooted in but not bound to the past.
Drawing on the emotional influences of the landscape and the sometimes dissonant chords of ancient music, she previously used fragments of ancient and early music to inspire her works but with The Sky Untuned she is completely untethered and forges a new space for her minimalist chamber music.
Laura has released five critically acclaimed albums since 2014, and is regularly broadcast in the UK, Europe and throughout the world including on BBC Radio 3, 4, BBC 6Music and The World Service. She has been a guest contributor to 6Music and regularly performs throughout the UK and Europe, recent festivals include Digital in Berlin, Unsound Poland, Flow Helsinki, Meteo France, and dates in Norway, Holland and Denmark.
