Women Make Music: Nina Harries

Nina Harries is a solo double-bassist and songwriter, and graduate of the prestigious Royal College of Music. A virtuosic player, possessed of a stunningly powerful singing voice, her intense perfromance style and strikingly unique songs mark her out as a singularly original talent. She has performed at BluesAlive Festival in Czech Republic, Glastonbury Festival, English Folk Expo and OMNI Festival for Strong Women in Luxembourg.
Hailed as a folk-punk mastress, she will certainly make you think, laugh, cry and maybe even faint.

This funding will allow Nina to finally create her debut album, a project which has gained mounting interest over the past few years. The album will showcase the relationship between the Double Bass and the human voice first and foremost, but will also draw on the vast network of talented musicians that Nina is a part of, allowing her to work with timbres and textures that as a soloist she cannot achieve alone.

Her music and performance style has been likened to Bjork, Joanna Newsom and Tori Amos, and Nina is determined to earn her place in the musical world whilst also showing the public the intimate and personal character of the Double Bass, something which few have ever experienced.
