Rina Mushonga: Women Make Music
Marked by soundscapes of shimmering synth textures, intricate beats and catchy riffs laced with Afro-pop inflections Rina‘s music is fully brought to life by her emotionally charged vocal performances.
After the successful releases of her debut album The Wild, The Wilderness and the recently released EP Bullet under PIAS Recordings, Rina has started work on her 2nd studio album set for release end 2017.
Having recently relocated to Peckham, South London, Rina has been inspired to develop work which further reflects the diverse influences of her Afro-European musical heritage.
Through a series of recording sessions and collaborations with artists and producers from different musical backgrounds, including acclaimed Grammy award winning producer Brett Shaw, Rina is gearing up to create an album which contributes a sound which will break through the confines of cultural and musical genres.
“In this project I’ll be fine-tuning how I incorporate the different musical influences I’ve been playing with in my demos, from Hip-Hop to Indie-Rock, Afro-pop and 80s synth-pop to R&B and dancehall, in a narrative which explores themes of metamorphosis, independence and empowerment.”
Rina‘s new album promises to be a celebration of her musical journey and a showcase of the full range of her inimitable musical gifts.
