Shingai Shoniwa: Women Make Music

Mostly known as the bassist & lead vocalist of the Noisettes. They released 3 albums, one of which went platinum and one critically acclaimed. Shingai has since created time to work on a wider range of projects including film (acting) and collaborations with other artists including ShyFX, Annie Lennox, Dennis Ferrer, RZA (Wu-Tang-Clan) and Dave Okumu.

The music Shingai has created is a broad range of Jazz, Soul, Punk, Reggae Electronic/Dance/Afro-House and more. There would not be such a vibrant pop scene without the African elements that lay at the heart of these genres. Her debut album will pay tribute to this as she feels that there is a demand for a contemporary African inspired pop record by a female artist.

Shingai said,

“I’m thrilled to announce that I am to become a recipient of the Women Make Music fund. They do an amazing job at supporting independent artists from a wide range of backgrounds, by providing them with the vital funding needed to complete projects. Having independently financed and released my debut solo EP ” Ancient Futures” the funding will bring me one step closer to my dream by allowing me to record my first album this summer”
