Zoë Martlew: Women Make Music
In June 2022, the Wigmore Hall will host the album launch concert for Héloïse Werner’s debut solo album ‘Phrases’ on Delphian Records. The lineup of artists contributing to the album is hugely exciting with new works from Elaine Mitchener, Nico Muhly, Josephine Stephenson, Oliver Leith and Héloïse and performances from guest musicians Amy Harman (bassoon), Calum Huggan (percussion), Daniel Shao (flute), Lawrence Power (viola), Laura Snowden (guitar) and Colin Alexander (cello).
Zoë Martlew (who has mentored Héloïse over the past four years) will write a celebratory and uplifting ten-minute ensemble piece as the finale of this concert, bringing together the brilliant performers involved in her disc. The new work will then be recorded and performed again as part of Héloïse’s album tour.
Composer, cellist, performer, cabaret artist, educator, mentor and presenter, the increasingly un-categorisable Zoë Martlew has travelled the globe in an ever-expanding combination of all these roles; as solo performer and with some of the world’s most renowned contemporary music ensembles, chamber groups, improvisation, film, electronica, multi-media, pop, rock, dance and theatre companies. Now increasingly in demand as composer, recent/upcoming commissions include works for Riot Ensemble (Wigmore Hall), Onyx Brass Ensemble (NMC), Britten Oboe Quartet, Mark Simpson (cl) (Kings Place), Timothy Gill and David Gompper (vc/pno, Atlanta Records) and song cycles for Cheltenham Festival (Lucy Schaufer/Huw Watkins) and Holland Park Opera.
