International Showcase Fund presents…

Saturday 20th May – 12-4pm – Komedia Studio

Following packed Great Escape showcases in 2015 (ft. Spring King, Boxed In, Jay Prince and PINS), and 2016 (ft. Rozi Plain, Holly Macve, NZCA Lines and Dapz on the Map), PRS Foundation presents four of our favourite International Showcase Fund artists:

Alice Jemima

12.15pm

Recently signed to Sunday Best, Rob da Bank’s independent record label, Alice Jemima merges sultry sweet vocals with contemporary electronic production, creating catchy yet intelligent pop that speaks of universal emotions. Initially breaking through via an enchanting cover of Blackstreet’s ‘No Diggity’ – now tallying over 3 million plays – Alice has so far amassed over 6 million plays on Spotify, and released her debut album on March 3rd 2017.

Be Charlotte

1.15pm

Be Charlotte is all about the damn good vibes. She is one of the most innovative artists in Britain. Her songwriting prowess is beyond her 18 years and has taken her on several Transatlantic journeys from her hometown of Dundee, Scotland. Her singing voice is flawless. She also raps and beatboxes and has helped to invent her own unique musical instruments.

Flamingods

2.15pm

Flamingods are a five-piece, multi-instrumental band formed in Bahrain in 2009. The band was founded by Kamal Rasool and now consists of Rasool, Sam Rowe, Charles Prest, Karthik Poduval and Craig Doporto. Based in both the UK and Bahrain, the band has carried out operations online as much as in person. The group puts a focus on exploration and experimentation, often taking influence from different cultures around the world by use of an extensive collection of instruments from as far as Nepal, Thailand, Indonesia, Turkey, Japan and Tanzania.

Sarathy Korwar

3.15pm

The extraordinary debut album from percussionist, drummer and producer Sarathy Korwar – Day To Day (Ninja Tune) – fuses traditional folk music of the Sidi community in India (combining East African, Sufi and Indian influences) with jazz and electronics.

“Sarathy instantly caught my attention when he said he wanted to make an album that embraced both Indian folk music and jazz. His album succeeds in bringing these things together in an elegant way, but it’s his own style and ideas that come through the most in the music. Refreshingly different, this is a deep and powerful listening experience.” Four Tet
