David Bedford Music Education Award

We are very proud too announce that Music for Youth has been selected as the first ever recipient of the David Bedford Music Education Award in recognition of their outstanding work providing access to performance and audience opportunities for young musicians across the UK.

Samantha Weitzel from Music for Youth collected the award on Saturday 28th April 2012 during a concert held in London to commemorate David Bedford who died in 2011.

Music for Youth’s winning project is a portfolio of complementary commissions aimed to engage young people in different stages of their musical development.

Samantha Weitzel from award winners Music for Youth stated:
“Across Music for Youth’s season we have introduced an ambitious strand of commissioning and collaboration. As an organisation we see this as an important contribution to the sector – showing how the imagination, risk taking and sheer enthusiasm of young music makers can be galvanised to create new work that surprises and lights the spark of new ideas. We are delighted to receive the David Bedford Music Education Award which endorses our programme of new music throughout 2012.”
