{"id":24217,"date":"2020-09-22T18:32:52","date_gmt":"2020-09-22T17:32:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/prsfoundation.com\/?p=24217"},"modified":"2020-09-23T12:15:53","modified_gmt":"2020-09-23T11:15:53","slug":"51-black-music-creators-supported-through-prs-foundations-sustaining-creativity-fund-third-round","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/prsfoundation.com\/2020\/09\/22\/51-black-music-creators-supported-through-prs-foundations-sustaining-creativity-fund-third-round\/","title":{"rendered":"51 Black music creators supported through PRS Foundation&#8217;s Sustaining Creativity Fund third round"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>51 Black music creators supported through PRS Foundation&#8217;s Sustaining Creativity Fund third round<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4><strong>51 Black music creators<\/strong> receive support in Round 3 thanks to our generous donors and Spotify\u2019s COVID-19 relief fund<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4><strong>4 Creators<\/strong>\u00a0receive additional access grant support<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>Since March 2020, 198 songwriters and composers have received support from the fund across three deadlines<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>UK-wide grantees across all genres, from alternative bands and grime MCs, to electronic producers and pioneering classical composers<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Thanks to the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/covid19musicrelief.byspotify.com\/en-us\">Spotify COVID-19 Music Relief Fund<\/a><\/strong> and generous donations from members of the public, we&#8217;re delighted to reveal that we have supported <strong>51 exciting Black music creators<\/strong> through the third round of our Sustaining Creativity Fund.\u00a0 4 creators received additional access grant support.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Sustaining Creativity Fund<\/strong> was set up to support artists, songwriters and composers to create and develop when they need it most.<\/p>\n<p>Round 3 of the fund focused on providing <strong>targeted support for Black music creators<\/strong>\u00a0in<strong>\u00a0any genre<\/strong>\u00a0and<strong>\u00a0gender<\/strong> across the UK who are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>This targeted round of funding recognises the Black music community is disproportionately impacted by COVID-19, that the economic impact of the pandemic will hit minorities hardest, and the concern that outstanding Black talent has been less able to access hardship funding over recent months.<\/p>\n<p>The round was run in partnership with six dynamic Black-led organisations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.girlsirate.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>GIRLS I RATE<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jazzrefreshed.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Jazz re:freshed<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/mobo.com\/\"><strong>MOBO Trust<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theresnosignal.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>No Signal<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/saffronmusic.co.uk\/\"><strong>Saffron Records<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/tomorrowswarriors.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Tomorrow\u2019s Warriors<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These organisations are on the frontline of talent development in the UK and a number of grants were ringfenced for music creators who have been through their programmes (or in the case of No Signal found out about the fund through their platforms). Their expertise and extensive networks ensured this support reached Black music creators who will benefit from this vital support at this unprecedented time.<\/p>\n<p>Conversations following the Black Lives Matter movement and the industry\u2019s show of solidarity on Black Out Tuesday highlight the many barriers to career progression \u2013 including structural and systemic racism in music, everyday prejudice and injustice, underrepresentation, marginalisation and financial inequity.
