Dame Evelyn Glennie embarks on residency in King’s Cross with support from PRS Foundation

Dame Evelyn Glennie residency as Musician in Residence King’s Cross, London N1C, officially launches: King’s Cross Sounds #LISTEN2N1C

Residency concept revealed to local King’s Cross residents, businesses, arts and community leaders in event hosted by PRS Foundation

Last night (Tuesday 17 January 2017) Dame Evelyn Glennie launched her residency as the King’s Cross Musician in Residence. At the event, which took place at PRS Foundation offices in Two Pancras Square, King’s Cross, Dame Evelyn spoke to local residents, businesses, arts and creative industry leaders and music creators about her King’s Cross project.

Dame Evelyn Glennie, the world renowned Scottish virtuoso percussionist, recently recognised as a Companion of Honour in the Queen’s New Year Honours list, was selected to be the new King’s Cross Musician in Residence by the workers, residents, and students on the King’s Cross site, through an online vote in 2016.  This month marks the start of Dame Evelyn’s residency, working with PRS Foundation and the King’s Cross Central Limited Partnership

Titled, King’s Cross Sounds, the residency will see Evelyn working with the community of King’s Cross to help discover their past, present and imagined future sound of the area. These sounds will be gathered in a stand-alone webpage and serve as inspiration for a final composition and performance at the end of the residency. The residency aims to get everyone involved in making the ordinary extraordinary.

Dame Evelyn Glennie said, “I am hugely honoured and humbled to be chosen as musician in residence by the local King’s Cross community. Listening will be the core of my residency and I plan to get into the heart, beat and pulse of the people and the landscape thus, to embark on this journey collaborating with broad-minded people whose aim is to make a difference is immensely exciting. Together we will help build a legacy that can be shared by all curious about King’s Cross.”

The King’s Cross Musician in Residence – a partnership between PRS Foundation, the UK’s leading funder of new music and talent development, and King’s Cross, London’s new creative quarter – was established to enable a UK-based music creator to explore, write and perform new music whilst based at the King’s Cross site in London over twelve months.

Dame Evelyn Glennie’s residency will run throughout 2017, with a final piece to be performed later this year at King’s Cross.
