The Changing Room: International Showcase Fund (Folk Alliance International)

Looe-based folk band The Changing Room delivers original, award-winning songs in English and Cornish language.

Formed in 2014 by Tanya Brittain and Sam Kelly, R2 Magazine said at the time “It feels like a little musical magic happened”.

The band is already multi-award winning having won Kan rag Kernow 2015 and the International Pan Celtic Song Contest 2015. Sam also won the Horizon Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2016.

The Changing Room has so far released two EP’s and a full length album. The second album is due for release in summer 2016.

  • A River Runs Between EP (English)
  • Splann EP (Cornish Language)
  • Behind the Lace Album (English)

The band’s debut album Behind the Lace is listed in The Telegraph’s “Best Folk Albums of 2015”.

“Beguiling, Behind the Lace will ensnare folk fans.”  The Telegraph

Guests on The Changing Room’s debut album include John McCusker (whistle and violin), Jon Cleave (Fisherman’s Friends), Tim Ashton (3 Daft Monkeys), Kevin McGuire (double bass) and Jennifer Crook (harp).

Tanya and Sam are joined regularly for live performances by Jamie Francis (Stark), Evan Carson (The Willows) and harpist Morrigan Palmer Brown and together they deliver rootsy, Celtic-infused songs heavily influenced by the industrial heritage of Cornwall.

The band performed at Celtic festivals in Cornwall, Ireland and Brittany in 2014 and 2015 and completed a first national tour of arts centres and folk clubs last winter. The Changing Room’s next tour starts in November 2016.

“A brilliantly recognised slice of modern folk music.” Bright Young Folk
