NYCGB commission new works by three outstanding young British composers.

NYCGB
With over 750 singing members, a nationwide network of partners and supporters, and an annual programme of concerts, residential courses, events and workshops reaching tens of thousands of people every year, the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain are a driving force at the heart of the UK’s amazing choral tradition. We identify talented young singers from the age of nine and offer them on a journey that takes most through our National Youth Boys’ Choir and National Youth Girls’ Choir (ages 9-15), National Youth Training Choir (14-18) and our flagship National Youth Choir (18-22) – and some onwards to early professional activity through our National Youth Chamber Choir and NYCGB Fellowship Programme (18-25).

Our graduates have probably entertained you at some point this year: we’ve proudly nurtured Royal Opera House and English National Opera stars, West End performers and solo artists, and many members of groups such as The Sixteen, The King’s Singers, The Swingle Singers, G4, Blake, All Angels, The Choirboys – and the Medieval Babes! Appropriately for an organisation with such wide-ranging alumni, we think that choral music is as diverse as you make it, and we collaborate with everyone from the BBC Proms to Goldie and Kylie, while our New Music Programme reinvigorates and expands the repertoire with commissions from musicians as diverse as Sir John Tavener, Karl Jenkins, Vicki Stone and James Rose. It’s all rather hectic and wonderful: we call it “the joy of singing”.

NYCGB were also the latest recipient of our David Bedford Award.
