PRS Foundation artists win 5 MOBO Awards including Album of the Year Award double win for PPL Momentum Music Fund supported artists

With 30 nominations for PRS Foundation supported artists at this year’s MOBO Awards, the evening ceremony saw 5 grantees pick up awards, including in an unprecedented move, the prestigious Album of the Year Award going to both Knucks (for ‘Alpha Place’) and Little Simz (for ‘Sometimes I might be Introvert’)..

Rapper and singer songwriter Little Simz continues her meteoric rise, following her PPL Momentum Music Fund support in 2015, International Showcase Fund support to perform at Canadian Music Week in 2014, and BBC Music Introducing & PRS Foundation showcase support at SXSW 2015. Rapper Knucks also received PPL Momentum Music Fund support in 2020.

Further wins for PRS Foundation supported talent, included Best Newcomer in association with ASOS (public voted category) going to Nottingham based MC BRU-C. The MC at the forefront of the Drum and Bass, Bassline and UK Bass scene has been supported through the Open Fund for Music Creators.

Best Drill Act, supported by Trench (public voted category), went to one of the UK’s most coveted breakout rappers, PPL Momentum Music Fund artist K-Trap.

Ezra Collective, supported through International Showcase Fund, PPL Momentum Music Fund and BBC Music Introducing and PRS Foundation showcase support scooped the Award for Best Jazz Act, supported by Jazz FM.

The triumphant 25th anniversary celebration of the MOBO Awards saw stars turn up in force for the UK’s biggest celebration of music of Black origin. BBC One will broadcast a special hour-long MOBO Awards 2022: Access All Areas show on 7 December at 10.40pm, this will include highlights from the ceremony, exclusive behind the scenes action, performances and red carpet interviews. It will also be available on the BBC iPlayer.

BBC 1Xtra will bring listeners a special show on 7 December. Alongside this BBC 1Xtra and BBC Sounds will celebrate the MOBO Awards at 25 in a special five-part podcast.

PRS Foundation is also proud to support emerging talent competition MOBO UnSung.
