For:

Cohan Collective Commission

Yorke Dance Project (YDP) has commissioned composer, Donna Mckevitt to compose a new score for her collaboration with Young Choreographer in Residence at the Royal Ballet Company, Charlotte Edmonds. Their collaboration is the first finished work to grow out of YDP‘s 2015 Cohan Collective, a composer and choreographers’ intensive residency, hosted by Middlesex University. This new collaboration will be previewed at The Clore Studio, ROH, in March and will be part of the autumn tour of Inspirit, YDP’s new production.

YDP recently created the Cohan Collective in collaboration with renowned composer and musician Eleanor Alberga and world-renowned choreographer Robert Cohan, CBE. The residency brings together choreographers and composers at varying stages of their development to participate in two weeks of intensive investigation into the collaborative process. This commission will nurture to its full potential the creative relationship forged between Mckevitt and Edmonds during the 2015 Cohan Collective.

Donna Mckevitt writes for a wide range of purposes: instrumental and vocal work and for dance and film. Her opus one Translucence, was released on Warner Classics to widespread critical acclaim. She has set the poetry of Michelangelo, Neruda, Celan and EE Cummings.

Past and present work includes:

Film work for Jaeger, Vogue and the feature films The Fold and The Child
Dance work for Sadler’s Wells, Charlotte Edmonds, Rosemary Butcher.
Score for Radio Four’s production of Miss Julie.
Documentary scores for John Stanley’s epic Time of Our Lives.
Violist in the band The Mabuses and for Nick Cave, Tricky, Moby and Michael Nyman.
