Britten Sinfonia Talent Development Programme
Britten Sinfonia is one of the world’s most celebrated and pioneering ensembles. The orchestra is acclaimed for its virtuoso musicianship, a bold approach to concert programming, and a versatility that is second to none. Britten Sinfonia breaks the mold by not having a principal conductor or director, instead choosing to collaborate with a range of the finest international guest artists from across the musical spectrum. In a single season Britten Sinfonia can play intimate chamber concerts and present large orchestral works, collaborate with theaters, perform with contemporary dance companies and premiere new operas. It works with a diverse range of partners and commissions new music from both established names and emerging talent.
Britten Sinfonia nurtures talent and raises the aspirations of the next generation of musicians and arts audiences – including those who might not otherwise be afforded the opportunity – through its Creative Learning programme.
With PRSF support, in 2017/18 Britten Sinfonia will; continue the popular OPUS competition, commission and premiere new works by; Elena Langer, Leo Chadburn, Emma-Ruth Richards, and the OPUS 2017 composer competition winner. Britten Sinfonia will also perform the premiere of a new children’s opera Coraline by acclaimed British composer Mark-Anthony Turnage, over ten performances at the Barbican. Britten Sinfonia Academy will also work closely with the Britten Sinfonia, especially involving the two new young resident composers.
