EFDSS: Talent Development Fund 2017

For:

Create - Creative Bursary Programme for Folk Music Artists

EFDSS is the national folk arts development organisation for England. They are here to champion the English traditional arts – music, song, dance, storytelling, customs and traditions – as part of the rich and diverse cultural landscape of the UK.

The funding from PRS for Music Foundation’s Talent Development Partner programme will support two specific activities – creative bursaries and showcase platforms for new/emerging artists and for mid-career artists to develop audiences through greater exposure and creating new and innovative music.

Targeted at new/emerging artists, the Seed Funding bursaries enable creative development of music artists working in the English folk idiom. In partnership with festivals and venues, showcase opportunities will provide creative outlets for their work and platforms from which to develop future opportunities.

Mid-career artists are eligible for a larger financial bursary offered with access to studio space at Cecil Sharp House and research opportunities in the EFDSS library and archive, the Vaughan Williams Memorial Library (VWML). Artists from any discipline with a c10-20 year professional artistic career may apply to undertake research and development for a new creative idea, rooted in English folk music.

This is an opportunity to explore creative ideas and there are no expectations on artists to produce work ready for performance or recording. However, past recipients have gone on to do this to great acclaim – Lisa Knapp’s Hunt the Hare album; Sam Sweeney’s Made in the Great War stage show and album; Ben Nicholls’ Kings of the South Seas stage show and album.
